Laker Land trucks are unmistakable on the road. Each one is custom-painted and styled for its driver.

The power of personalization

At Laker Land Logistics, pride rides shotgun — and so does personality. Each truck in the fleet is custom-painted and styled to reflect the driver behind the wheel. Compliments roll in at truck stops, but the real reward is retention. “It’s not just about how it looks,” says founder Doug Nelson. “It’s about showing drivers they matter.” Doug has spent his life on the road, and he understands what keeps drivers loyal. From personalized rigs to genuine respect, his approach is simple: treat people like family, and they’ll stay.

The all-new Volvo VNL: A statement on wheels

When Doug first saw the all-new VNL, his reaction wasn’t about torque or telematics — it was about his drivers. “Oh, the drivers are going to like this new style,” he thought. For Doug, investing in modern equipment isn’t about flash; it’s about respect. That’s why he didn’t need a sales pitch from Dan Bellrichard at Dave Syverson Truck Centers. He saw the value instantly — not just in performance, but in what it symbolizes: a statement to his team that they’re worth the best.

“It’s not just about how it looks, it’s about showing drivers they matter.”

Duane Gersch

Duane is a long-haul driver who has turned his Volvo VNL into a home on wheels. With a love for comfort, practical upgrades, and a personal touch of biker-inspired style, he’s made the road his own.

“People are always asking about it. I tell them it’s the best truck I’ve ever driven.”

Q: What makes this truck the right choice for your route or lifestyle?

A: For me, it’s all about comfort and practicality. The ride is incredibly smooth, and everything inside is set up perfectly for life on the road. When I’m off the clock, I can cook, relax, and really feel at home. It’s more than just a truck — it’s my space.

Q: What’s one feature in your all-new VNL that you couldn’t imagine going without — and why?

A: Hands down, the cornering lighting. It’s such a small detail, but it makes a huge difference in visibility and safety. I wouldn’t want to drive without it.

Q: Which design detail or innovation makes your day easier or more comfortable as a driver?

A: The refrigerator is big enough to stock up for long hauls, and the built-in shelf for my air fryer is a game-changer. I can cook real meals on the road — it’s a little luxury that keeps me feeling human out here.

Q: How did you choose the style and color of your truck?

A: I’ve always loved the color blue, and when I saw the biker graphics, it just clicked. It’s a reflection of who I am — my love for riding and my style rolled into one.

Q: What’s surprised you most about your VNL?

A: Honestly, how aerodynamic it is. You can feel the difference when you’re driving, and it’s impressive for a truck this size.

Q: What questions are you getting from other drivers — and what do you tell them?

A: The most common ones are “What year is it?” and “How much room do you have in there?” I just smile and invite them to take a look. People are always surprised at how spacious it really is.

Kert McCloud

Kert is a proud driver who lives full-time in his Volvo VNL. For him, this truck isn’t just a vehicle — it’s a home, a workspace, and a source of pride. From its maneuverability to its sleek chrome accents, Kert knows he’s driving something special, and he’s not shy about telling you why.

“I wash this one more than my old truck because I want it to shine.”

Q: What makes this truck the right choice for your route or lifestyle?

A: Compared to my old truck, this one is 100 times better. I love the maneuverability, the space — especially the space — since I live in my truck.

Q: What’s one feature in your all-new VNL that you couldn’t imagine going without — and why?

A: My favorite is the Murphy bed with the premium mattress — I’ve never slept on anything that nice in a truck. It’s also way easier to get the table down now; you don’t have to take apart the whole bed like before.

Q: Which design detail or innovation makes your day easier or more comfortable as a driver?

A: The style and tech. I’m proud to drive this truck — the chrome on the Ultimate trim is sleek, and I love chrome. The compliments I get just make me want to keep it looking its best.

Q: How did you choose the style and color of your truck?

A: Let’s just say, ever since I got in this truck, the Timberwolves have been winning — and I’m not about to jinx it!

Q: What’s surprised you most about your VNL?

A: The design blew me away. The aerodynamics, the extended fairings, and the driver-side door that opens wide — it’s great for quick entry when it’s raining. Volvo really outdid themselves this time, and I didn’t expect them to take it this far. I’m impressed.

Q: What makes this truck the right choice for your route or lifestyle?

A: It offers reliable performance, which is perfect for long hauls. I can stay out on the road longer without feeling homesick, and the new interior and advanced technology provide comfort and convenience.

Q: Which design detail or innovation makes your day easier or more comfortable as a driver?

A: The easy-access control panel makes operating the truck effortless, saving me time and reducing hassle. The push-button start and automatic fifth-wheel release add versatility that’s ideal for my job.

Q: What’s surprised you most about your VNL?

A: The parking climate features — they create the perfect balance of convenience and comfort.

Q: What questions are you getting from other drivers — and what do you tell them?

A: I get asked a lot if the new interior features are user-friendly. I tell them the new controls and larger touchscreen make everything easy to access and operate.

Drivers also want to know if the redesign makes it more fuel-efficient — and yes, the aerodynamic design helps save fuel and cut operating costs.

Comfort is another big question, and I explain that the Murphy bed with dinette, upgraded seats, and climate controls make a huge difference.

When they ask if the new design is better than the old one, I tell them absolutely — it’s more aerodynamic, has better tech, and offers a smoother, quieter ride.
