The Latest In Volvo Trucks
Stories for our drivers and fleet managers.
The latest news from Volvo Trucks.
“I-Torque is designed to provide increased fuel mileage by combining the advantages of direct drive with the performance and flexibility of overdrive. Properly spec'd trucks are seeing up to 8.5 miles per gallon at speeds of 55-85 miles per hour, depending on the truck weight and terrain of the route” said Peter Voorhoeve, president, Volvo Trucks North America.
Volvo Trucks North America adds to its track record of industry-first breakthroughs in powertrain innovation with the Volvo I-Torque. Now available as an option with the latest D13 Turbo Compound engine, I-Torque is designed to achieve best-in-class fuel efficiency, without compromising performance, drivability and productivity.
The enhanced D13 Turbo Compound (D13TC) engine from Volvo Trucks is now standard on all Volvo VNL models, providing enhanced fuel efficiency and reducing overall cost of ownership.
Volvo Trucks North America has taken strategic measures to continue setting new standards in fuel efficiency and providing best-in-class fuel economy for its customers while reducing its products’ greenhouse gas emissions footprint. And because increasing operational efficiency and cutting fuel costs is more important today than ever before, the company has further enhanced its fuel economy packages for both the Volvo VNL and VNR models.
Two years ago, Volvo Trucks introduced the first generation of its Turbo Compound engine in their Volvo VNL model range. Following on the success of that technology and the positive customer and driver feedback on fuel savings and drivability, Volvo engineers started working on the next generation, which delivers fuel savings up to 11% compared to 2015 model-year trucks.
Volvo Trucks North America is introducing the next generation of its Turbo Compound technology, providing up to an additional 3% improvement in fuel efficiency over the current 13-liter Turbo Compound engine, the D13TC.
Volvo truck owners in the U.S. and Canada now have supported solutions for complying with the impending electronic logging device (ELD) mandate, which goes into effect December 18, 2017. Depending on engine, emissions level, and associated onboard hardware, Volvo owners can utilize Volvo’s integrated connected vehicle hardware to access services throughTelogis Inc., a Verizon Company, or they can use a plug-in Geotab telematics device to connect with their compliance services.
Volvo Trucks North America recently delivered 19 D13-powered Volvo VNL 300 models to Ontario-based Purolator, marking the first Canadian delivery of trucks equipped with Volvo’s new 2017 engines. Featuring a host of new technologies and improvements, Volvo’s 2017 D13 offers enhanced performance and fuel efficiency for customers.
Volvo Trucks North America will offer a new factory fill engine oil for the Volvo D11, D13 and D16 engines, meeting new Volvo VDS-4.5 engine specifications and also exceeding the new API specification CK-4. Volvo models running the new VDS-4.5 will be able to travel for longer intervals between oil changes, saving customers money on service costs and increasing uptime.
In an effort to further increase productivity and fuel efficiency, Volvo Trucks North America developed Volvo I-See, a new feature that memorizes thousands of routes traveled and uses that knowledge to keep the truck in the best, most fuel-efficient gear possible.
